(1 year ago)Added "Five on Finniston Farm". As I had to enter this manually (no ISBN) it won't show up on the "recent" feed.

Has anyone added Audio CDs lately?

I've found some listed by search but if anyone has a lot listed, I'd like to take a look.
Interested in history, science, historical fiction, mysteries. Unabridged only, please. Not children's or romance audiobooks.

I think I still have audiocassette version (unabridged) of FLYBOYS by James Bradley: true story of World War II navy pilots. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll make an effort to find it:)

I can only mail to U.S. and Canada. No, I'm not a selfish American. I'm a financially constrained American.

(2 years ago)Thank you! I like the new features of photos of book covers and arranging multiple books mooched from a single giver. Well done. Now if you could only implment scrolling inventory . . . NightReader in Indianapolis IN

(2 years ago)Thank you, Leanne. I appreciate your answer and will frequently check your inventory:)
Denise
(2 years ago)Denise, I've listed some recently and will be listing more. Most are new. As another financially constrained American, my only request is, if your points allow, that you mooch more than one at a time so my postage account will last more than another few weeks. Thanks...hope you have a wonderful week and will find some you enjoy. Leanne

Presenting a Spanish newbie with audio books in English

This new user has several audio books in his inventory (Salman Rushdie, Raymond Carver, Alice Munro, Roald Dahl, etc.) They are in English although probably meant for Spanish students of the language.

Finding audio books

Does anyone here know of a good way to search for just audiobooks on BM? I've tried the one suggested when I asked in the Features forum - start with the Browse button, then enter Audio in the search blank. That gives some results, but apparently doesn't pick up on all audio books, as every now and aguin, I find one I'd like to order when I'm browsing for something else, one that han't shown up while using the Browse button approach. And a lot of what the Browse button brings up is paperbacks and other non-audios. So am I missing some easier way to do this?

(3 years ago)Hi Margaret! One technique I use (I think I read about it on this forum originally) is to go to "browse", click on "advanced search", then there's a drop-down menu where you can choose "look for publisher only", click on that, then put in the search bar the word "audio" -- that gets you a lot! Also try "books on tape" as the publisher if you don't mind cassette tapes, but the word "audio" works very well. Good luck!

I have RECORDED MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPERS on CD, MP3 COMPATIBLE

I have in my inventory Audio Magazines on CD, MP3 COMPATIBLE:
1. In English: the 'Times' and the 'Jerusalem report'.
2. In Hebrew: 'Haaretz','Yediot' and 'Maariv').
3. Easy Hebrew audio magazine for learners of Hebrew as a foreign language, called "shaar rishon" שער ראשון (meaning: first gate).

I list them regulary in my inventory.

The Audio Magazines & newspapers of 2010, are 5 for 1, and of 2011, they are 3 for 1.

Mooch, and I will refund your points immidiatly.

Audio Book formats and type

Does anyone know if there's a way to easily determine whether an audio is unabridged or chopped? I hate abridged so avoid it like the plague. In future as I add titles form my personal collection I'll be putting unabridged in the listing.

(3 years ago)They are. Just make sure somewhere in the title or description they're listed as CD or Cassette. Mike

(3 years ago)I have a couple of audio (CD and cassettes) that I am willing to part with. I have not listed them cause I didn't think they were swappable in BM.
Clara
(3 years ago)I prefer tapes as you can just start again from where you stopped. With CDs you have to try to get back to the right place, which is difficult
Doreen
(3 years ago)Tapes are still fine. Many of us still have drives in our cars.
Michael
(3 years ago)Are tapes any good? Most of the 40 -50 audio books I have listed are tapes. There are too many really to list separately. Maybe one day John will have a place all their own.
June
(3 years ago)Look in my inventory. I have a bunch and I try to make sure somewhere they're labeled as audio.
Michael
(3 years ago)I'm looking for books on CD for my mother. Has anyone come up with a good way to search for these? I feel like I'm trying to find a needle in a haystack... If there's some on your shelf, let me know. She'll listen to anything, and I've got a ton of credits to spend.

(4 years ago)I've been searching for unabridged audio books off and on for a couple of years on BookMooch. I've experimented with several search techniques. Lately here's how I've been finding unabridged audio books to mooch. Go to Browse, then Topics. (You can look in the Audio Books topic, but you won't find many books there.) I pick a topic that interests me, like Action & Adventure. Then on the next page I search for "unabridged" within that topic. (Sometimes I'll also search for "CD" or "audio" within a topic, but that gives a lot of results I don't want.) Then I'll repeat that process with each topic that interests me -- Biographies & Memoirs, Fiction, Horror, etc. I'll see a lot of the same books over and over, but it's a way to home in on unabridged audio books. Often Amazon is not good about differentiating between abridged and unabridged. From experience I've learned to assume a book is abridged if the book doesn't specify unabridged. Lately I've seen at least three books on Amazon that showed both abridged and unabridged, simultaneously in the same listing! I wish I could remember the titles so I could provide links here. Sometimes abridged books are listed as unabridged. Here's a specific example that I bought from Amazon in 2006 (and returned): http://www.amazon.com/Casca-Eternal-Mercenary-Barry-Sadler/dp/1552049418 Under details if says, "Publisher: DH Audio; Unabridged edition (November 2000)". It was abridged and the box even said so. I explained that as the reason I was returning it, yet now, four years later, it still shows as unabridged! It wouldn't surprise me if other DH Audio books are listed the same way in error. Jon

(4 years ago)I hope you find lots. Cassettes are plentiful.

(4 years ago)Margot, you're an angel. I have searched and searched for audio books on BM for my blind father with limited success -- and even requested help from BM == and they never gave me this simple tip.
peachfuzz
(4 years ago)Thanks for the explanation.
Nicholas
(4 years ago)UPC = bar code
Gail
(4 years ago)What's a UPC#?
Nicholas
(4 years ago)A lot of times they say in the listing or under Topic. If they don't, I go to Amazon. If that doesn't tell me, I write the owner and ask them to look on the box. I am willing to go to any amount of trouble to avoid abridged books. :-) Also, I have just noticed that there is a Topic entitled Books on Cassettes. Now that my cassette player no longer works, I need a Topic entitled Books on CD.
Nicholas
(4 years ago)Would they have a different UPC # for abridged and unabridged?
Liz
(4 years ago)Not a stupid question at all. Here's how I do it. Go to Advanced Search In Search For These Words, type Audio Words appear in: select Publisher Fill out the other fields as you like, but make sure you select more than the default 50 listings per page; otherwise the search doesn't always work correctly. Run a second search the same way, but with Books on Tape in the Search field. There! I've given away my secret.
Nicholas
(4 years ago)OK, please excuse this 'stupid' question. I did not know I could BM audio books. How do I locate them?
Kevinoleary
(4 years ago)No; all books are the same unless on special offer for reduced points. It isn't allowed to ask for more than the standard 1 or 2 points. Do you have some spare audio books around I might mooch?
Nicholas
(4 years ago)Do audio books take more than one or two credits due to the amount of CDs in the box?
Clara
(4 years ago)One point but it's a pretty small fraction of the traffic here.
Michael
(4 years ago)I usually double check on Amazon as well. I've noticed that for Unabridged books they seem to put that in big letters. But they don't always advertise that it's abridged and it's just noted in tiny letters on teh back somewhere: abridgement by so and so. How many pts are audiobooks on bookmooch? I've always sent mine out through paperbackswap because they're 2 credits there.
Msright
(4 years ago)I always check Amazon if the listing doesn't say and then I ask the owner, too.
Nicholas
(4 years ago)Usually if it's less than 6 hours it's abridged. I'll try and remember to note that on my mooches in future. Good to find ways to help.
June
(4 years ago)If an audio book is abridged, the original package usually says so, if unabridged, you can usually find that information on the package as well. On those that don't say, I consider them to be abridged... but whether that's the actual truth or not, I can't say. Publishers really SHOULD be proud to acknowledge that they are putting out the full, unabridged version in audio format where they are telling the truth... and be required to state that the product is the abridged version in such cases where that's true. On one audio book I recently gave to someone via Paperback Swap, the only notice of abridgement on the package was a small statement at the end of the synopsis stating the author had approved that abridgement. You would need to read everything on the box to spot that... :( so no, on a lot of audio books, there is no easy way to tell which version you've got.

unabridged audio books

I have just listed, forgot who was asking for them, one called 'Tripper" by Ken McCoy. Be glad to send it.

RECORDED MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPERS in Hebrew

I have a load of cd's of weekly RECORDED MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPERS (MP3 COMPATIBLE) in Hebrew, dating from June until now. I recieve them once a week and when I finish listening, I can give them away. Do you think anyone in BM would be interested in these?
Here are what they include:
a selection of articles from the week-end newspapers, finance and sport, and a choice of articles the women's newspapers Horim Veyeladim, Menta and Haim Acherim. From time to time the disk also include Eretz Acheret and Ha’ayin Hashvi’it.

(4 years ago)the cd's ARE from the library for the blind in Israel. Once we recieve them we are allowed to keep them. I thought it would be a waste throwing them away and there are people who might want to listen to them. Thank you for the suggestions. I will try to list some.
Michal
(4 years ago)Michal, Was going to suggest contacting NAVH, and it still might be a possibility, (National Assn. for the Visually Handicapped). However, I see they have been "acquired" by Lighthouse. Another thought is try listing a couple and see if you get any takers. We are a pretty broad community here at BM. Mike
