How long is it reasonable to wait for someone to mail a book?

I am fairly new to Book Mooch. I just requested a book and when they accepted the mooch, they said it would be sent out in Sept. 2015- it is April 30, 2015, is this an unreasonable time to even expect someone to wait to get a book? I understand a month or maybe even 6 weeks, just depending on when people get paid but I think this is unreasonable. What do you all think? I still haven't decided if I am going to cancel the mooch or not.

I would say that is not a reasonable wait unless they have contacted you and given you an explanation that you feel is reasonable. I would check their profile page to see if they are actually actively on the site. If not, I would cancel, giving "member did not respond" as the reason so the account is put on vacation. If they have been active on the site, I would email them or send a reminder.

When they accepted the mooch on April 30, 2015, here is what they said, "Thanks for mooching from me! I'll be sending the book by September 2015. Please bear with me." So there was really no explanation given... maybe I should message them back and see if it was a typo. I mean if you really weren't able to mail out a book for 4 months, shouldn't you put your account on hold until you are a better position to mail out the book in a more timely manner?

Perhaps they are budgeting themselves and only sending one or two packages a month. If this is the case they should really put this information in their status message. I have seen others who have done this, so that people can choose to mooch from them in full awareness that it could be quite a wait. If you wished, you could email them and suggest that a notice in their status message of their mailing schedule would not be amiss. I guess it depends how badly you want the book whether you cancel or not.

I don't know that I would give the reason for canceling as "member did not respond" since the member did respond. If it's the only copy available, I probably would just wait for it, but if there are other copies available I would cancel and say that six months is too long to wait.

I have been waiting for some books since March. Why don't the members send them? They should send them. I will cancel them all if I don't get them soon.

Robert Ryniker, the choice is yours. If you're in a country awash with books and people prepared to send to you, then cancel and mooch from someone else. If the books you have mooched are less frequently listed, then wait. I'm in France, and even if someone sends books immediately, it can take several weeks for them to arrive. In the meantime, as long as I haven't run out of reading material, I'll wait. Better late than never.

Robert, two of the people you mooched from have not been on the website in months and the third one has been gone for 43 days. I'd cancel the two that have not been on and remind the one who was on at the end of March. When you cancel, be sure to pick the option that says "The owner never responded." That puts them on vacation and makes their books unavailable to others until the person logs on again.
