She likes cozy mysteries and Christian fiction and her favorite book is September by Rosamunde Pilcher. She loved the Tales from Grace Chapel Inn Series. She does not like violence, vulgar, sexy, romance, science fiction, fantasy. Let me know if you think that you have something that she may like PLEASE. THANK YOU.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes especially the earlier books which she wrote when she was a teen herself
Scott Westerfeld the Midnighters trilogy

THE CAVENDISH SCHOOL FOR BOYS AND GIRLS by Claire Legrand
Rick Riordan and of course, Harry Potter are fantasy but very similar to paranormal in many ways (modern times with fantastical events rather than an invented fantasy land)

Dune for a school
Hello. I have a high level reader and lover of Sci-fi that I'm trying to challenge. I'd like him to read Dune by Frank Herbert (he loves history and complex concepts also. This fits the bill!) There are no moochable copies available right now. If anyone is willing to part with theirs, I'd be very grateful! Thank you, Anita Laabs Mt. Horeb Middle School

| (2 months, 2 days ago) | Lee, I'm a big fan of Lee Hoffman and have a couple of hers in my Inventory
- Melanie C. | | (2 months, 3 days ago) | @Lee you probably want to go up to the pull down menu on the top of this page and select "write a new message". Then put something about Louis L'Amour in the subject line. If you just tack your message onto someone else's subject line it is less likely you will get a response. Have you tried searching through Amazon? Zane Grey?
- Cara | | (2 months, 4 days ago) | I have read all the Louis L'Amour books I can find. Is there another writer of western stories of his stature that I can look for? If so, please give me their names.

Fascinating Womanhood and Asterix
I would very much like to obtain copies (in any language) of the books of Helen Andelin, in particular Fascinating Womanhood, the guide to a happy marriage. I have seen its wonderful influence in women around me and would like to have extra ones for lending or giving away. -- I am also eager to find Asterix books (the French comic strips series) in any language to improve language skills. Thanks a lot in advance, Rebecca

| (6 months, 8 days ago) | "Before spouting off bad information"? What bad information? Consulting with a professional when taking a step in a baby's child development sequence can hardly be called a bad step except maybe by someone too arrogant in there own superiority. Lots of people have lots of ideas but not a stake in someone else's baby's growth. I never said "no"; just temper your decision based on sound professional advice. (As an example, a speech professional might investigate any physical difficulties that might be preventing talking and that might be exacerbated if left untreated.)
Besides using signing to encourage a baby's speech/language development, home made picture boards can also be used to integrate tactile, kinesthetic, auditory, and visual modalities to express their needs. Again, I would consult a professional.
When my third son was a baby we were concerned with his "screeching". We consulted a professional who upon talking with the family pointed out to us that his two loving older brothers did everything he wanted without him uttering a word. #3 would point (basic signing) and make some strange sound (basic language) and get whatever he wanted. A discussion with the older boys stopped their efforts in obliging #3 who at thirty-five years old hasn't shut up since.
(By the way, I spent thirty years in education most of them as a diagnostician and instructional advisor for younger children many of the skills which were learned on the job helping to raise my own four children.)
I am not trying to denigrate anyone's efforts or to castigate the process of early signing for babies. All I have tried to point out is to be prudent and check first then act accordingly. PAX
- John Vernon Scott | | (6 months, 8 days ago) | Talking is part of language development. Signing is, too. Babies can control their hands earlier (about 6 months) than tongue, teeth, lips and vocal cords all together to produce clear spoken language (it's more difficult). So by using "Baby signs" (about 20 or so basic signs that can be easily signed and used, the Baby can communicate with the parent what is bugging it. This reduces frustration on both sides, because otherwise, the parent has to guess the whole litany: is the baby tired, hungry, wet, tummy ache, bored?, while the baby gets frustrated.
Babies who can use signs will still have lots of incentive to talk: their parents still talk with them, after all; spoken language serves to express more than the basic signs; other people beyond parents don't understand signs; and babies are interested and fascinated with learning, trying out sounds and learning speaking like the people around them do.
So please, inform yourself properly before spouting off bad information.
The wish to use Baby Signs is a good one and will not harm or delay the Baby.
- nonameblue | | (6 months, 9 days ago) | There are studies to support most anything that you want to do. I am not sure that early talking is what is being sought. Screeching is being expressed as the problem to be remedied, not early talking.
Are there physical anomalies that preclude early speech? Is there sufficient language stimulation? Are there other adults or older children catering to the screeching? Is the baby babbling? And on and on...
My previous comment still stands; a professional should be consulted prior to pursuing this venture.
- John Vernon Scott | | (6 months, 9 days ago) | There have been studies that have found that, on average, babies who sign learn to speak earlier than babies who don't, as long as the signing is paired with oral language.
- Cara | | (6 months, 10 days ago) | If the baby can get what he wants by signing, why talk at all? I would consult a professional before embarking on this plan.
