The year is 2110, and Earth, as usual, has its share of square pegs that won't fit into round holes. But now, thanks to Theo Guderian, a French physicist, there's a haven for them: a one-way, fixed-focus time warp that opens into the Rhone Valley 6 million years ago, in the Pliocene era. A place of permanent exile, where the violent or romantic or malcontent can live out their fantasies, without harm to their more stable peers.

On August 25, the week's party numbers eight: Richard, Felice, Claude, Stein, Amerie, Bryan, Elizabeth and Alken. Some are violent, one is paralyzed by grief, one is an engaging crook, and a few are psychic. Their bond: a longing to make new lives for themselves.

But they cannot know that other exiles had beaten them to the world of Pliocene Europe.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He was robed in white and scarlet and wore a heavy belt of linked squares of gold set with red and milk-white gemstones. Around his neck was a golden torc, thick twisted strands with an ornamented catch in front. He had blond,
shoulder-length hair cut in a fringe above his eyes. His face was beautiful despite the fine webwork of lines at the corners of his smiling mouth.

He was nearly two and a half meters tall.

He was a Tanu, a member of a race exiled in ages past from another galaxy which had condemned them as barbarous. Although he and his fellows rule Pliocene Earth and have subjugated the human exiles they are outnumbered by their ancient foes, the Firvulag small and gifted with great psychic powers.

Now the knowledge and powers and military skills of the human exiles have given the Tanu the advantage over the Firvulag. Though virtual slaves many humans are willing to cooperate for those who do can ascend into the Tanu ruling elite and even don the golden torcs which amplify psychic powers.

But Group Green the latest party of eight to go into exile have greater resources than the Tanu can imagine.

And the exiles find themselves pawns in a desperate struggle that threatens to destroy both their captors and their new-found land.

A fast-moving gripping story of a new civilization at the start of time and its alien conquerors.
