Bio:
NYC Books Through Bars is a nonprofit collective that sends free books to incarcerated people across the country. Over the past 20 years, we have sent more than 50,000 packages of books to individuals in state and federal prisons. We currently receive and fulfill over 700 book requests each month. We believe that books have the power to transform people and the way they see the world.

We are run entirely by volunteers, and the books we send are donated to us by community members. Our primary operating expense is postage to mail books to the people in prison who write to us requesting them.
