Status message:
I try and log on here every day at the moment, even though that's not always possible. Please bear with me - I will eventually get back here and send out books I have promised to people! I usually only make it to the post office on Saturdays. If you find that you can't wait for a book for at least a month, then please don't mooch from me. I do normally try and be a bit faster about it - but sometimes life gets in the way of BMing.

I am a newly-appointed Tupperware Consultant and would like to hear from others who do the same! Let's share / swap TW books and recipes!

Both my parents are quite ill and infirm at the moment. Inbetween working, running my own household, looking after my cats and trying to get some reading and some cross stitching done, I have to be at their place about three times a week.
Please be aware of the fact that I can't always get to the post office. I may have to delay mooches by about two weeks to a month sometime, even though I don't like doing that - believe me. I have one big bookshelf in my basement that is overflowing with books I give away, and also two bigger bookshelves in my flat that desperately need sorting out. What I am saying is: PLEASE DON'T MOOCH IF YOU'RE NOT PREPARED TO WAIT! Thank you.

*** PLEASE NOTE!!!***

I am not happy about some people here who mooch without asking first. I have set my settings in a way that says "ASK BEFORE YOU MOOCH", and I appreciate people sticking to that! Thank you.

I send out all my overseas books via surface mail and don't expect anyone to splash out on Airmail to send any books to me. If a book takes three months to get here, then that's fine. I have a mountain of unread books anyway and I don't *have to have* any book straight away.

+++NEWS+++NEWS+++NEWS+++

I got married on the 17th of October, 2008 and I am the happiest woman in the world. My new husband and I (that sounds great) have had a bit of an uphill struggle in the past with the odds against us, but we fought for our love and came out stronger the other side. My goal in my (married) life now is to make him happy (and to read more books).

I was taught to read at an early age and have always enjoyed it. I am German but read a lot in English and will read pretty much everything (apart from SF and Fantasy), and have been known to get charged at airports for 'über'-heavy suitcases. Right now, I am into a lot of different subjects. I read up on True Crime again and have a few books on the subject - once I have finfished reading those, I shall list them here.

One author I admire hugely is Daphne du Maurier. My mother told me about her books when I was younger and my collection is growing, not least due to the friendly help of fellow bookmoochers! DdM is greatly underrated, in my opinion.
I also enjoy reading authors as diverse as Byron and Brecht, but also many contemporary ones.

May I share with you here my reading list of 2008: (Sorry, never started one for 2009!)

Dec 2007 / Jan 2008
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Jan 2008
Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beauman
Carry on, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse

Feb 2008
Survivor by Christina Crawford
1979 by Rhona Cameron
In-Flight Entertainment by Elliott Hester
The Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby

Mar 2008
The Sewing Circle by Axel Madsen
Mommie Dearest by Christina Crawford
Das Käthchen von Heilbronn by Heinrich von Kleist

April 2008
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Britannica & ich (German version of The Know-It-All) by A. J. Jacobs
-- I haven't managed to read anywhere near as many books as I would have liked to this year, yet. There just never seems to be enough time... "work" and "life" seem to always get in the way.

May 2008
Still stuck on P&P.....
Happy Aua by Bastian Sick
Götz George - Mit dem Leben gespielt by Torsten Körner
Brecht - Stücke 2 by Bertolt Brecht
-- I am having the hardest time with P&P. I have never spent this much time on any paperback, ever. But I am nearing the end of it now and as I don't like leaving books unfinished or half-read, I will knuckle down now and finsih this.....

June 2008
-- Started and put away a couple of books. Can't seem to concentrate on anything properly. My life is a bit of a mess right now and even though reading has always offered a certain amount of escapism for me, I can't seem to get stuck into one particular book at the moment.

July 2008
-- I finally gave up on P&P. It's too much, I can't take it anymore!! I have instead started on

The Mind Readers by Margery Allingham. Much better...
No Room For Secrets by Joanna Lumley

August 2008
Liebe in den Zeiten der Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Our Street by Gilda O'Neill

September 2008
Hinterm Haus der Wassermann by Gudrun Pausewang
Tamburlaine Must Die by Louise Welsh
The Birds (short story by Daphne du Maurier)
Silent In The Grave by Deanna Raybourn. Laughable attempt by an American author to write a story set in Victorian London. She even gets her AE and BE spelling mixed up.

October 2008
What To Do When Someone Dies by Nicci French. Fabulous as all of their books.
Frag Mutti - Das Sparbuch by Bernhard Finkbeiner and Hans-Jörg Brekle
Madame Tussauds - 200 years of Chamber of Horrors by Pauline Chapman
The British Museum Is Falling Down by David Lodge
The Private World of Daphne du Maruier by Martyn Shallcross

November 2008
Jeeves and Wooster Omnibus by P. G. Wodehouse
A Northern Soul by Jimmy Nail

December 2008
Out Of Africa by Karen Blixen

I am leading a bit of a chaotic life at the moment, so do not really have much time to take fantastic care of my bookshelves here at home. They are in a bit of a mess I'm afraid. I will start sorting them out then get distracted. There's just not enough space. Or time. Likewise, the books in my Bookmooch inventory are strewn quite all over the place. Most are in pretty good condition though by no means perfect. Some are from previous swaps / mooches / from library sales. I do try to note the condition when I put a book in my inventory.

I love rummaging around on flea markets for new books. We also now have about three 'public bookshelves' in my city. These are, as the name suggests, bookshelves (one is actually the size of a garden shed, complete with benches inside) where people leave their unwanted books and others go to take their pick. I have found a lot of interesting books there already, and have left some in return.

My ideal home would definitely include an extra room for my books. Fireplace, large comfy armchair and sofa, and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. I would like to be able to afford ALL the books I see in shops and catalogues, and then have enough time to read them all!

Anorth ehooby of mine is am dram. I am with a group called the Bonn Players - we make English Theatre. Please check out our website (both in English and in German): www.bonnplayers.de Thank you!

.oO*~ Happy Mooching!~*Oo.
