The Artemis Fowl series is for young adult/teen reading

Artemis Fowl is a twelve year old genius, super rich, and is the head of a large crime family. I cannot remember why, but his parents are not around; at least for the first book. Fairy people have been living in secret, hiding themselves from humanity. In the first book, Artemis Fowl captures a fairy named Holly Short. Artemis holds her for ransom in an attempt to restore his family's fortune.
