I've been reading a very narrow genre for awhile now...

Been working my way through British naval fiction set during the napoleonic wars.

So far this year I've completed reading the following series:

The Hornblower Saga - C S Forester

The Alan Lewrie series by Dewey Lambdin

All the Ramage novels by Dudley Pope that I've been able to get my hands on.

At the moment I am reading Colours Aloft by Alexander Kent the 16th in the Richard Bolitho Series.

So that's basically what I've read this year with a few other things mixed in.

Perhaps you should break out and read Sharpe?

Those are on my list, at the moment I am still in the process of collecting all the Sharpe books. I have about 10 of them so far and they are definitely on my "To Be Read" list.

And then Flashman? Although you must read Tom Brown's Schooldays first!

And my husband says you should read N a M Rodger : Wooden World

which will give you a real feel for the Georgian Navy!

N a M Rodger : Wooden World isn't one of the non-fiction that I've read so i'll definitely take a look at it. Your husband might enjoy Jack Tar - The extraordinary Lives of Ordinary Seamen in Nelson's Navy - Lesley Adkins : Jack Tar: Life in Nelson's Navy

Thanks for the recommendation.

If you wish to drive yourself barking mad, try John's Nautical Fiction List, a vast bibliography of nautical series. It apparently hasn't been updated since 1999, but contains lots of old series that I'd never heard of. It's at:

There's also a good non-fiction list that's part of the same site.

It's time you got acquainted with Patrick O'Brian. He's brilliant -- the Aubrey Maturin Series. All 20 or so of the novels are stand alone but I'd start with Captain & Commander or whatever the first one is.

I actually just got the last P O'brian novel in a swap today, so now that the series is complete it's on my to be read shelf. Actually it has so many books it IS my to be read shelf. :)
