What are you reading now?? May 2011!!
This month, my plan is to finish up the Cirque Du Freak novels, only have 1 1/2 left to go so I think that's pretty doable, lol!! And to work my way through the other series that I have started such as The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare; The House of Night Series, by P.C. and Kristin Cast; The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins; The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel; and see what other wonders I can pick up along the way. P.S. To all the mothers, step-mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunts and all the other women I didn't mention who have or are currently raising children, Happy Mother's Day!! Without you, there would be no us!!

I'm reading Jane Eyre. It was a Christmas gift from a friend and although I was sure I'd read it, I have realised that I haven't. I know most of the story, but it's new to me at the same time. Just over half way through and I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow. After that I'm onto the third in the Robert Asprin 'Myth' series: Myth Directions (I'm slowly working my way through the series) as well as the Terry Pratchett Discworld series (before Jane Eyre I read Eric). At the moment I'm alternating one Robert Asprin book with a novel from my to read pile, then a Terry Pratchett one, then a novel from the to read pile, then back to Robert Asprin. I would just read the Myth or Discworld books all in one go, but I'd be worried I'd get bored, and as both series are fantasy I worry I'd get them confused or something so that's why I'm alternating. Also because I've got a massive To Read pile that really needs to be tackled. ;-)

I'm about forty pages from the end and I'm really loving it. There was a bit of a blip in the middle when I'd been really into it and then I thought I knew where it was going and I wasn't so excited about it. Then I was wrong and I've just loved it ever since. Can't believe it's taken me so long to read it. I'm glad I've got Wuthering Heights on my To Read pile because I'm loving the style of language. My husband asked me a question earlier and I was totally channelling Jane Eyre when I answered him. Hehe.

Finished Jane Eyre last night and really enjoyed it. Now I'm reading Myth Directions. It's only 202 pages so a nice quick read. Read up to about page 70 last night and wanted to read further but knew I had an early start today so had to stop. Then my husband had a doctor's appointment this morning and while I was waiting for him I read up to page 150! Only 50 pages to go and it's a quiet day at work so I've spent a couple of hours working on an assignment because I've not brought another book with me and I don't know what I'll do if I finish it without another book to read, hehe. Next up is The Hours - Michael Cunningham. I should've read it as part of a book tree (a sort of book share group I'm involved with) but there was a bit of a delay and so I missed out on it. Looking forward to reading it though, don't know much about it.

Finished up the Cirque Du Freak series last night and have started back into The Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. I had previously read Amoung the Hidden and quite recently was able to mooch the rest of the series from one user here on BM! So, I am now reading Margaret Peterson Haddix : Among the Imposters.

I'm onto A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller. It was going to be The Hours - Michael Cunningham next, but my Dad told me he'd finished this one and if I wanted to read it, I'd have to be quick because he'd already listed it on Amazon! I'm about a quarter of the way through it at the moment and really enjoying it, just wishing I didn't have to read it at such a pace!

Yesterday I finished the Karin Slaughter books. I have managed to read all of her books the past month - Kiss Cut, Indelible, A Faint Cold Fear, Faithless, Triptych, Skin Privilege and Broken (I read Genesis, Fractured and Martin Misunderstood a while ago). Very much looking forward to Fallen in July! At the moment I am reading Tess Gerritsen's The Surgeon that I am enjoying. I have managed to obtain all of her Rizzoli and Isles series so plan to work my way through these in between Karin Slaughter's new book.

Read Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett, now onto The Hours at last. I wasn't sure whether or not I'd take to the way it's written, but the more I read it, the more I like the style.

Finished The Hours last night and now I'm nearly halfway through Robert Asprin's Hit or Myth. I love that I'm finally able to reread this series, they're such a quick read but they're funny and it's been so long since I read them last that it's almost like reading an entirely new book. ^_^

I read The Room by Emma Donoghue. Wow, amazing use of language and not as depressing as I was worried it would be. Will be starting A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, Reading a couple of light weight paperbacks in the meantime since I am in bed with a cold.

I'm reading Wuthering Heights at the moment. It's required reading for a course I'm planning on doing next year so I thought I should have a go at it before I need to read it seriously. Wasn't keen on the way it was being told for the first hundred pages but now it's starting to grow on me and I'm getting into it more.

I just finished the first book in Asimov's Foundation series. I read it about 25 years ago and it was just as good as I remembered! Cara, I loved The Room by Emma Donoghue. Have you read any of her other books? I discovered her years ago but hadn't read anything recently. She's a great writer.

@Vikki, the Room was my first Emma Donoghue. I heard her interviewed on C.B.C. radio and she read a bit of the book and I was completely enthralled by her use of language so I had to read the book. I may try to track down some earlier books.

Finished Gossamer, and was a bit let down. The story was fluid and moved along but it just seemed to be missing something. It is a YA novel so I can see the point of the simplicity, but there was just... something... missing. I can't say that I enjoyed it. I shook my head and moved along, lol. So, in the manner of NOT reading what I planned to read this month, whoops, I have delved back into the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. I am reading Rick Riordan : The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2) and maybe, just maybe (since they are sitting together on the shelf all organized and lovely) I'll actually finish a series! (I have a major case of ADHD when it comes to most books, tho... There are just so many wonderful novels to read on my shelves that I just can't decide on what to finally choose!!)

Just finished Deborah Harkness : A Discovery of Witches: A Novel . Loved it! It reminded me of The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, but I liked it better. It had more humour, and I liked the way the characters developed and grew. Great settings, all the smaller characters were well developed and interesting too. And it left us hanging waiting for the sequel. I'm starting Ann Aguirre : Razorland (actually called Enclave) next.

Finished The Sea of Monsters and have already started in on Riordan, Rick : The Titan's curse. Just as a P.S. I really do enjoy the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series! The books are well-written and fast-paced, the characters are believable and well thought-out, there is also lots of great background information about the characters and settings (and those setting details are also wonderfully detailed) and well, just all-around great books for any YA reader. You can keep the angsty-love triangle riddled fantasy YA fiction that seems to be circulating nowadays. Ok, so I DO read them. (I try to read all of the YA best-selling series just to keep myself in the know, lol), but give me these well-written, action filled fantasies over Twilight (and the knock-offs) any day and you'll have one happy camper!! (It's a shame Camp Half-blood isn't real, lol, because I'd totally be one "happy camper" there!!).

Finished The Battle of the Labyrinth and instead of reading the last book, have switched to reading M. T. Anderson : Thirsty.

Finished Ann Aquirre's Enclave. YA dystopia. Not bad for the genre, a bit unbelievable, but interesting characters. I might read a sequel just to see what happens to them. Haven't decided what to read next, I'll have to look in one of my TBR piles.

Oh, and I also just finished Cameron Haley : Skeleton Crew the sequel to Mob Rules. I enjoyed this one very much. Very interesting world she has created. The way the heroine uses magic is quite fun.

Finished Thirsty, and have started on a new series, Angie Sage : Magyk (Septimus Heap, Book 1). A reviewer on the back cover described it as the "new Harry Potter," but I have yet to see the similarities in the first 100 pages... I guess I'm just a HP snob, (and love it) lol.

Finished Magyk and have decided to actually finish a series, lol. I chose Scott Westerfield : Extras as my newest endevor. I couldn't find any info on the book here so used the only copy that popped up and added an amazon.com review if anyone is interested in reading the fourth novel in the "Uglies" series.
