Member's Email Spaming Me WIth Bounce Messages

I requested a book someone had listed. They'd been on here within the last week, so I assume they are active still. Then I start getting the bounced email messages. The person appears to have set anything from bookmooch as spam *sigh* I cancelled the request, getting more bounced email messages.

Is there some place/someone that should be told? It seems like there should be an administrative-type person to tell, just not sure whom. I want to prevent this from happening to the next person who tries to mooch from that member.

In peace,

Annye

The person is probably unaware that their email is bouncing. Many email providers identify Bookmooch email as spam, it's a known problem that the admins can do nothing about. If you haven't already done so, leave feedback on the cancellation transaction (go into your history from your member page) and indicate the reason was because of bounced emails. If the member checks their feedback they will see that and perhaps get in touch with you.

It's definitely frustrating, but it happens. I switched email providers because BookMooch emails kept getting sent to spam, even *after* I made a filter for them.

But yeah, Admin can't do much, 'cause if your emails bounce back, so will theirs. All you can really do is leave a note in the feedback and hope they see it.

Sorry, with reference to previous comment, I had actually typed in the correct title, "The" perfect Christmas, though did try "A" perfect Christmas too, just in case. Thanks again, Rose.

Further to last 2 postings, still searching, I actually found the isbn no. on fantastic fiction, typed it in, but bookmooch still came up with no such book. Checked it on r.i.s.i. which accepted it immediately and added it to my wishlist. Came back to bookmooch again, but same result. No such book! I really don't think it is me!!

Hi, thanks for the advice, but still no luck!

I've typed in the isbn and searched Amazon, which I'd already tried anyway, but it still says the book doesn't exist, yet r.i.s.i. accepted it at once, no problem. Thanks anyway, Rose.

What is it with me and bookmooch. A book on my wishlist, "A comedy of heirs flashed up as available, so I mooched it. When I checked my pending page I found it had come up as a totally different and unwanted book by the same author. Have emailed the owner to try and sort it out, but wondering how and why this happened, and how do I alter it please?

Look out for the give-away "related" tag. Bookmooch relies on Amazon listings. As an Amazon seller I know how poor those sometimes are. Large sellers are allowed to make listings not already in the Amazon database. Many make a new listing just so that people will not compare their price with another seller where the prices are lower than they wish to set. Others misspell words or put in incorrect ISBN. I am not sure if there is a button to choose NOT to have related books. If there is it will bepart of a menu at the top of the wishlist page (right corner in mine).

also sometimes the "related editions" listing is not entirely accurate -- it may list all books in a series as related, for example. So when you get an email from BookMooch saying a book on your wishlist has been posted, make sure if it says "related edition" that it really is. This happens not very often, but it can....

Thank you so much! I did everything but hit the "add" button, so your advice was very helpful in pointing that out. Happily adding to my inventory now.
Happy reading!

I have 2 very sought after books in audio form. But since I am not familiar with the use of audio books, and moreover book is in foreign accent,so I am not able to take advantage of these books. I am ready to give these books if you promise to send short notes/explanations/gist of them/

@bharatk8 you might want to post this message in the Inventory plugs forum.

Hello,
I asked for an international mooch and the person agreed to it. I noticed she was interested in multiple mooches and checked her inventory. Unfortunately when I wanted to mooch a second book, her name didn't appear in the moochable copies. How could I mooch it from her inventory?
Hélène

@ Helene You need to go to the mooch the book page and scroll down until you find her listing, then click the "ask first" next to her name. Then the book will be moochable for you. The other option is to email her and ask her to reserve the book(s) for you.

Thanks for your answer. I emailed her and she did something(?) to make it appear. I've mooched it and all is OK.

I want to give extra points to someone in my country to cover sending a large number of books. How do I add the points?

Paecos, here are 2 ways. You can give them a "smooch" from their Bio page (but I think you can only do those 1 at a time), or you can go to your own Member Home page, page down to where it say "Charities", and you can choose to "charity" them the points. I think you just use their "userid" name, as that is individual to them. Hope this helps!

Thanks, I'll give the smooches a try. I must not be doing something right or I'm missing something. Paecos

I not seem to know how to give smooches. Can someone help?

Are you going to *their* home page? That is the page it is on. There should be a link on the right side of the page, above where it says "recommend" -- it should say "smooch".

Thanks, Melanie C. I found the charity giving slot to give points to another member. There is a glitch in the address for the member but I found it. So I know what was going on with the smooches. Paecos

Hello - when I type in the 'security check' word it isn't working for me - not sure why - I've been trying to request a book for a few days now and it keeps saying 'you must type exactly as shown' which is what I'm doing ?? Anyone else having this issue ?
Beverly

@Beverly did you have CAP LOCK on? It needs to be lowercase. Other than that, I can't imagine what the problem could be.
Cara

Thanks, I handled the problem. The members address had 1 extra character.

Thanks for replying Cara - I didn't have the caps lock on ?? And I had to type a security word in order to start posting in this forum and that seemed to work ? I'll try mooching a book from someone else and see if I still have the same problem - it might just be that one book/member that it isn't working on.
Beverly

@Beverly, that sounds like a good plan. It could very well be a glitch around that one book. Let me know if it works for you.

Not sure if there is a way to fix this but I accidentally marked a book received. I emailed the member to let them know but didn't know if there was a way to undo it.

Any help would be appreciated.

@Melanie, there isn't a way to undo the received, but you can go into the history of the transaction (from you member page, click on the books mooched) and change the feedback comment to indicate that you have not actually received the book yet. You can update the comment when you have received the book.

I am not a newbie but I have never encountered this situation before with bookmooch so I hope I am not posting it on the wrong forum.

I recently denied a request for the book "Bittersweet" by Nevada Barr because I received some misinformation that the book would cost more sending it out of the continental United States. Upon rejecting this and explaining why in an email through BookMooch to the requester, she wrote me back, a little miffed I think, giving me a geography/history lesson of the United States. I decided to send the book anyway on Monday 5, 2012 because I didn't want a hassle with anyone. My credit was taken away upon rejection of this book so my question is... Will I get my point back when I send it out on Monday? BTW, I wrote an email directly contacting BookMooch to get some advice on what to do with this situation before I rejected the request and after waiting a week they didn't answer so I acted on my own. Thanks in advance with your answer.

Judith it's not acceptable to post another members address in a forum. A swift answer to your question, you will not get your point if you send the book - your refusal to send has ended the transaction.

Donna, Thank you for responding so quickly. I am sorry but I did not know that it was unacceptable to post an address. I just thought the information would expedite the answer. I did not see any rules when I looked, about anything, even though they might have been there. I edited the address out but I have to say all this could have been avoided though if I had gotten a response to help me understand my responsibility when I asked, by sending an email to BM customer support thinking I might get a faster response. What's done is done and I'm going to do the right thing and send the book anyway.

Judith,
If you email the requester, apologize for the misunderstanding, and ask that she please remooch the book you will get the point back. At this point she may have gotten the book elsewhere and may not be interested, but that is your best option. In the future should you change your mind about mailing a book, I would recommend emailing the requester first to see if they still want it. In general you will get a faster response to questions by posting a message in this or the discussion forum, rather than contacting support, and by creating a new message (upper right pull-down menu) rather than writing a comment on a older message.

There is no "rule" about not posting addresses, but this is a public forum. It is unwise to put any personal contact information in a public forum including mailing addresses and email addresses. This is a safety issue true of any public discussion forum on the Internet, not exclusive to this forum.

Donna, even though I don't usually post on forums that makes sense and I agree I should have realized that. Thanks for the heads up. I think I will let this one ride for the point since it was my mistake. It's a learning lesson! I have already corresponded by email with the requestor and apologized and told her I was sending her book on Monday.
