As a rule, I will not both read a book and watch the corresponding movie. I am almost always disappointed. There are few exceptions: the Harry Potter books/movies would be one and I enjoy both. I read 'Cold Mountain' and thought it was pretty good. I then decided to watch the movie because of all the award buzz...MAJOR MISTAKE. This movie was such a huge disappointment. I cannot even begin to describe what a pathetic movie it turned out to be. I think the screenwriter put the book in a blender, dumped the shredded pages on a table, pushed the mess around a bit, copied the result and called it a screenplay...horrid.
I was also disappointed with the movie result of 'Fried Green Tomatoes'.
