Journals and keeping them circulating

A journaller recently expressed the opinion that if she wanted to keep journals she would be within her rights. Please make sure your requesters know that this is not so: the BMWiki says about journals:
The cost of participation is exactly the same as if you were mooching a regular book, but you would not own the journal - rather, mooching it is committing yourself to adding your entry into it and releasing it back with-in two weeks to be mooched again by another participant. The owner of the journal retains ownership and gets it back when the journal is full.
The BMJournal site also states:
Mooching it is committing yourself to adding your artistic entry into it and releasing it back within two weeks to be mooched again by another participant. The owner of the journal retains ownership and gets it back when the journal is full.
Please make sure you only accept requests from moochers who agree to this - I have spent countless hours trying to recover journals stalled and lost, and hearing such sentiments is most discouraging for journal creators and those who add entries and enjoy seeing journals circulating freely. The volunteers who run the journal site and library give their time and send out stalled journals at their own expense, please give them your support so that journalling is enjoyable for all!

I agree with this, the journals belong to the creators. I personally have 12 circulating and have spent countless hours a month tracking, emailing and requesting them back, and hounding people to send them along. Which of course makes me feel rotten inside HOWEVER I got involved in the journal project because I liked the idea that an idea of mine could inspire others, that we would all work together, and when we were done I would get the book back to share with my friends. I did not think I would have to remind people endlessly to return the journals (Sometimes I myself have money problems which limit the number of books I am able to send along so I completely understand, but a little comment now and then or a schedule to send would be nice to.)
I was able to place the last page in a journal and return it to it's creator which was a really big thrill for me as I learned a lot about events that happened to others in my childhood. But I would never never keep a journal that didn't belong to me!

To all newby Journal enthusiasts, it is wonderful to read all the journal entries and to contribute your own few pages. And don't worry, you don't have to be a scrapbook expert to contribute! Just stick a picture or photo and write a few lines.
But please remember to re-list promptly and to keep the journals moving! So if for some reason you can't post journals out, it is probably better not to mooch them.

Mel,
That's wonderful advise. I remember being so self conscious the first journal I sent out, but I got such lovely comments it really helped me along knowing that I didn't have to be an artist to do journaling! Some of the artwork is outstanding and some (like mine) is not but it is very fun and I love seeing all of it as creations take many forms from the heartfelt to the artistic, from simple to complicated. It is well worth the efforts and I thank everyone for contributing to my journals, they are all very moving! I highly encourage everyone to give journaling a try!
