Share the Love Contest
I have, in my brief 14 month membership in Bookmooch, been the recipient of numerous gifts and smooches, have had many angels come to my rescue, and am now the owner of more than 500 books that I didn't have before. I've given new homes to over 300 of my old books and I've angel-mooched a few for others. In all, 2010 was a great Bookmooch year for me, and as such, I am running this contest to share the love. I want to thank Michelle and Cara for contributing the majority of the points for this contest…yinz guys're awesome! The contest will run until it is no longer January anywhere on Earth. The first correct response will get a 5-point prize and I will award the next four correct responses with smooches. Additionally, one smooch will be given to my favorite response. At the end of the contest, the winner of the grand prize will be chosen at random from all those who have given correct responses. Winners will then receive 50 points and 25 points will go to a charity of his/her choice. The winner and the solution to the puzzle will be announced (hopefully) on February first or second. If no correct responses are given before the end of the contest, no prizes will be given and all donated points will be returned to the donors thereof. If you have any questions about the contest or clues, you are perfectly willing to ask if you do so openly in the forum comments. I will choose to answer (or not) as I deem necessary. To all of you, I bid good contesting…hope you have some fun in puzzling it out. Last time I made the contest so difficult that not many could finish. That being said, the contest is delineated thus: First construct an edifice Looking like Khufu's of old, Using, 'stead of stones and bricks, The answers of clues told. These answers number ten plus one In honor of the year And number in their spelling From one to eleven, clear? Yours is to arrange them So they match the shape desired… If not, it will be difficult To find the name required. 'Pon completion of the structure, Yes, eleven stories high, Approach it from the right-hand side And climb it to the sky. Whilst you are ascending Base to top, mind you the stair Mounting you the structured clues A name is hidden there… Named is there a sailor Who survived a stormy sea, Search then the tablet's number Where we first his name can see. This number then as key will serve To solutions codify. If correct you want response to be, You'll take his name and try T'incorporate its letters within messages yourn If with these rules comply, your name Will contender's list adorn. The first letter of his name should be At "n"th place text within The next place will be "n" plus 2 And second letter's in. Subtract then a 5 from the "n" The third there placing do. Repeat the steps for 4, 5, 6 Et cetera 'til end come to. For example, if the number's eight And the name is "Dan" (like me) The first letter then'd be 8 points in Then 10, then 3…you see? Valid responses would then be thus: "I done did the puzzle…amen." "I stopped trying…it made no damn sense" Or "Three and seven make a ten." Hopefully, this is enough To help you find your way. Good luck to all, I wish you well, And of course, have a great day!
