Unexpected Donations to BM

Over the past week, I've received a small stack of unsolicited donations to BookMooch. I've haven't done a nagging about the I Give A Little plan in quite a while, so this was a very nice surprise.

Many of you who sent in a donation also included a lovely note. I'd send you all thank you letters, but most of you who send a donation in, don't include your BM user id or an email address.

So... hopefully if you sent a donation in, you're reading this blog entry, and can accept a super-duper thank you from me.

ps: below is a sample donation letter: very, very touching, and a great example of what makes BookMooch so special for me, and hopefully for you as well!

This donation is a nice gesture! And the books have gone to a good home to people who wanted them.

Wish you had "nagged" in December when so many of your U.S. members make end of year tax exempt donations. Would have reminded me to add you to my list.

That's really good to hear. I'm glad people are very generous even in harsh economic times.

Is there any way to MAKE Bookmooch an offical non profit? After all, a lot of the money which has gone into developing it has been met from the pocket of its founder!!!

I mooch books for some of my patients. I work in a nursing home & my patients have little or no money to expend on simple pleasure such as books. When one of them mentions a book or video, etc. that they would like it's the staff that intervene and see if we can find a way to get it for them. It would be nice if there were a way to make bookmooch a tax deductible, non-profit organization.

It isn't that hard to become a 501(c)3 account. I filled out the paperwork about 12 years ago for a museum. You have to have people that are willing to be designated officers and someone to fill out all the forms.

I am all for non profiti for americans. In eu we may also have charitable status With similar low or non cost AND tax back etc. The biggest non profit is IKEA and registered in holland as such.

Although we are global we should look at the best country to be registered. I am also in favor of non profit and not a corporation - something couchsurfing has wrestled With.

John, my RSS feed keeps republishing the entire feed every few weeks. Not certain if you're tweaking the blog template, but my Google Reader just re-received the last 64 posts. This happens every few weeks.
