(11 months, 20 days ago)Gabrielle Bell's "When I'm Old And Other Stories" is a good collection of comics due to the author's ability to infuse her stories with a blend of humor, vulnerability, and insight that is both relatable and emotionally resonant. (12 months, 4 days ago)For me, Gabrielle Bell's "When I'm Old And Other Stories" captivated me with its poignant illustrations and deeply relatable tales, making it a compelling and thought-provoking read that resonated with me long after I turned the last page. (4 years ago)I usually love books from the 1800's, so I don't think that the age of the book has much to do with why I didn't like it much. I just didn't think it was all it's cracked up to be, I guess.
Daisy
(4 years ago)It took me about 2 months to read "Dracula. It was good at first. Action about whats-his-face going to the Counts house and all that. But after that, it got really slow. And soap opera-ish. I know this was written in the late 1800's, but no one ever talked the way they talk in that book.
Quaker Maid
(4 years ago)I tried reading Dracula once, but after maybe five chapters I gave up. Too slow-moving and dark for me. I like the movie adaptations better it seems; words I'd never thought I'd say, haha. I'm currently reading Linda Thompson : The Plum Blooms in Winter: Inspired by a Gripping True Story from World War II's Daring Doolittle Raid (Brands from the Burning) and I am enjoying it immensely. Great clean WWII historical fiction; I highly recommend it.

(4 years ago)I got the new "Ladies' #1 Detective Agency" audiobook for Solstice. I've read every book in the series, in order. I will be donating the book to the library after I've listened to it a few times. Right now I'm reading "Dracula". It's a tough read and it's taking me a long time.

WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?????

I'm halfdone reading Robert Goolrick : A Reliable Wife It is SO good!! It's so descriptive and elegantly written that it really transports you back in time. It feels as though I'm really there, in these people's minds, experiencing their thoughts & memories...their weaknesses and wants. Beautifully written.

DECEMBER 2015

Better late than never....
What are you reading now???

Well, I was reading James Patterson : Miracle on the 17th Green: A Novel BUT, I had to quit it halfway through....I am just not into golf. Since I'm a Huge James Patterson fan, I thought he would make it interesting. I was wrong. I found it to be SO boring. I kept hoping it'd get better, but it didn't.

So, NOW, I'm reading Koethi Zan : The Never List: A Novel It's MUCH better!! A different book altogether....a thriller. About 2 girls at a party who think they got into a cab, when they really got into a strangers car......something they're NEVER supposed to do, and end up being prisoners in his basement/dungeon. EWWWWWWW.

June 2020

I am reading River of Doubt by Candice Millard. http://bookmooch.com/m/s/the+river+of+doubt+theodore+roosevelt+darkest+journey

It's an account of Teddy Roosevelt's difficult journey along an unmapped rainforest river with his son Kermit, many laboring South Americans known as camaradas, and famous Brazilian explorer Candido Mariano da Silva Rondon.

It's fascinating to read what this elder statesman did to challenge himself after losing his last bid for the White House to Wilson.

You will definitely enjoy this armchair travel from the comfort of home without insects and waterfall rapids!

I'm reading the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Novels.

I'm rereading the first five novels by Laurell K. Hamilton. Some one told me that after book ten they just kind of go down hill. Has anyone gotten that far and if so, what do you think?

(7 years ago)I agree, the first few are pretty good urban/paranormal fantasy with some romance. The latter books devolve into relationship angst and explicit sex with a little bit of crime fighting on the side.

WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?????

I'm still reading William Martin : Back Bay It's good, I like how the chapters alternate from Past to Present. I'm not as many pages into it as I'd like to be...my real-life keeps getting in the way. But so far, I have no complaints.

(8 years ago)Wally Lamb : Wishin' and Hopin': A Novel Was a really cute book, and a few parts made me laugh out loud....About a boy who's related to Annette Funicello, and goes to a Catholic school, a Russian exchange student with a thick accent that's wicked funny, and a big Christmas play that's a riot. Then I read a Dave Barry book, Dave Barry : The Shepherd, the Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog That was really cute too, and only took 2 days to read. Now, I'm reading Graeme Cameron : Normal It's a Hardcover Edition, not the paperback copy listed here. It's fiction, about a serial killer and told from his point-of-view.
Michelle
(8 years ago)I'll start reading Wally Lamb : Wishin' and Hopin': A Novel either tomorrow or Monday. YES, I finally finished reading Stephen King : Revival and I thought it was wicked good. Didn't get a little strange till right towards the end, but...it was a Wild ride. Overall, I'd give it an "A". I have to let someone borrow it, and then I'll be adding it to my Inventory.
Michelle
(8 years ago)I'm still reading Clive Cussler : The Sea Hunters: True Adventures with Famous Shipwrecks and I'm also reading Will Henry : Custer, which is actually really, really good. It has become my favorite Will Henry novel yet, and I have read several. I'm reading it for my Spring Reading Challenge, which you can find in the forums section if you are interested. :-)

(8 years ago)Last week, I started reading Caroline Kepnes : You: A Novel Only my copy is a Hardcover, not the paperback listed here. I stupidly left it at work, or I woulda finished it this weekend. It's about a guy named Joe who works in a bookstore, and gets obsessed with one of his customers. She uses a credit card to pay for her purchase, but in his mind, it's because she wants him to know her name. So, he googles her to get her address. Goes to her house and breaks in when she's not home. Smells her pillow, and finds her computer, reads her blog and emails to see if she's talking to her friends about him, because by now, he's convinced himself that she's in love with him too. The guy is bat-crap-crazy. Wickedly fast moving. I love it!!!!
Michelle
(8 years ago)Yesterday I read Ben Stiller : Feel This Book: An Essential Guide to Self-Empowerment, Spiritual Supremacy, and Sexual Satisfac tion It's by not only Ben Stiller, but also Janeane Garofalo. I like both those comedians, so I thought their book would be funny. Plus I bought it cheap a long time ago, lol. It was a super fast read, but I totally hated it. I thought it wasn't funny at all, just an excuse for them to get an easy paycheck. Even I could write something better than that... anybody could. Blech!!

(8 years ago)Today I went to a Church Thrift Sale, and bought Linda Howard : Ice: A Novel because it was very cheap. I read it in a few hours, that's how fast it was. I thought it was okay, but I'm not letting my mom read it cuz there was a graphic sex scene in it and she doesn't like to read that kinda stuff.
Michelle
(8 years ago)Now I'm reading Patricia Cornwell : From Potter's Field It's the 6th book in her Kay Scarpetta series. Mine is a hardcover version tho, not the paperback one that's listed in the link.
Michelle
(8 years ago)I thought I'd start the year with a Classic. I'm halfway through http://bookmooch.com/m/a/amazon.com/Catcher+in+the+Rye My copy is different than the ones pictured here. I think the only Classics I've read were in school, and I don't know if they even count as classics. They were "Animal Farm" and "Lord of the Flies". As we'd read them, my teacher would dissect them chapter-by-chapter...taking all the fun out. As a result, I was never interested in reading a Classic for fun. But every time I go to a Book Sale, I find myself stocking up on them...just in case I want to try one. It seems like it's on a lot of Wishlists here, so I'll see if I have any spare copies I can add to my Inventory.
Michelle
(8 years ago)I'm reading multiple different Westerns at the moment. Westerns are great, especially if they are written by Louis L'Amour or Zane Grey.

(8 years ago)I'm currently reading Patricia D. Cornwell : The Body Farm It's the 5th book in her Kay Scarpetta book series. All is well Lady Khalia. I went to a booksale last weekend...was a lot of fun.
Michelle
(8 years ago)I'm reading Patricia A. McKillip : Od Magic very slowly because I have a brand new baby girl who is taking up most of my time.
Jennifer
(8 years ago)All week I've been reading STALEMATE (LARGE PRINT EDITION) I never read an Eve Duncan book before, and it's a bit frustrating because it mentions stuff from previous books, which I've never read. I'd been having a lot of migraines, so I wanted to read a Large Print, and thought I'd be better off reading it cuz I wouldn't need my granny glasses. So I grabbed it off my bookshelf only because it said Large Print. I LOVE reading Large Print. It's a fast paced, non-stop action book, and SO much easier on my eyes. All books should be ONLY written in Large Print. WOW, what a difference. No headaches AT ALL from reading this book. WOO-HOO :)
Michelle
(8 years ago)Now I'm reading Doris Roberts : Are You Hungry, Dear?: Life, Laughs, and Lasagna She's the meddling mom named Marie from "Everybody Loves Raymond". Every chapter has at least one of her recipes. She's funny and nice. I never knew about all the theater work she's done. I only knew her from "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "The Middle"....where she is so annoying. Good book.

(8 years ago)This weekend I also hope to finish reading Richie Tankersley Cusick : The House Next Door I got it at a bookfair. It's a Teen Horror story, but very mild....well, I'm a lot older than a teenager though, lol. It's fast, and once I start reading it, I don't want to put it down.
Michelle
(8 years ago)I'm almost done reading Bill Geist : The Big Five-Oh: Facing, Fearing, and Fighting Fifty It's a fast read. I'm used to seeing him on the Sunday Morning TV show, so as I read, it's like I can hear his voice too. He talks about getting his AARP card, sex, gyms/health clubs, playing golf with his son...and how they're both really bad at it.
Michelle
(8 years ago)Tomorrow I'll start reading Wendy Corsi Staub : Lullaby And Goodnight Sounded really really good, and I was lucky to mooch it.
Michelle
(8 years ago)I just started Rich Karlgaard : Team Genius: The New Science of High-Performing Organizations yesterday. I'm hoping to get some good information from this book although I have never read any other books by this author. We'll see!
cocoGerman
(8 years ago)Tomorrow I'll start reading James Patterson : The 9th Judgment Mostly because I know I will NOT be disappointed. I Love James Patterson books. That last book I was reading, "STUFFED", just wasn't as good as I thought it'd be. It was a fast read, but that's about it. Not something I'd really recommend. I'm very surprised it is on SO many peoples Wishlists. So I'm listing that one now in my Inventory.
