This isn't a book blog, but a blog of a literary journal, the Beloit Poetry Journal. This month I'm their guest blogger, so I thought I'd mention it. http://blog.bpj.org/ Love to hear anyone's favorite poetry book blogs, or poetry blogs. Best, JessicaG

A tome is where the heart is - My book blog
I started up a book review blog a few months ago. I write reviews of books and book related things (as well as other random things occasionally). I do not cover any specific genre, but all my posts are tagged by qualifying genres. So, say you are looking for an idea for a YA book to read, you can see what I have read. I also put up a reading list at the beginning of each month, so that people who want to read the books can discuss them with me. http://www.paperbackgoddess.blogspot.com

Natural Gas in Vehicles May Cause Problems
Diesel Technology Forum, a nonprofit organization aiming to raise the awareness the importance of diesel engines, fuel and technology, stated that switching from diesel to natural gas in heavy-duty trucks could worsen and accelerate negative climate impacts unless methane leakage can be lowered. This warning by DTF affected a lot of capital equipment businesses. Axis Capital Group, one of the leading companies which sells and rents capital machineries in Singapore and has expanded to Jakarta, Indonesia to offer a wider scope of products and services across Asia has been greatly affected that Quality Assurance department halted delivery for a two-day maintenance and review of all its machines. The study also outlined the need for increased data and new policies to lower methane leakage in order for natural gas heavy-duty trucks to have a possible environmental advantage over new and future clean diesel trucks. Many heavy-duty vehicles use spark-ignited natural gas systems, but other systems exist as well. High-pressure direct injection engines burn natural gas in a compression-ignition (diesel) cycle, where a small amount of diesel fuel is injected in addition to the natural gas to facilitate ignition. Heavy-duty engines can also burn diesel and natural gas in a dual-fuel system. The study – “Influence of Methane Emissions and Vehicle Efficiency on the Climate Implications of Heavy-Duty Natural Gas Trucks” - was conducted by scientists at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Columbia University’s Lenfest Center for Renewable Energy and published today in the journal Environmental Science and Technology. A statement from DTF released the results as follows: “Our results show that under our reference case assumptions, reductions in CH4 (methane) losses to the atmosphere are needed to ensure net climate benefits on all time frames when switching from diesel to natural gas fuel in the heavy-duty sector. By combining such reductions with engine efficiency improvements for natural gas HDTs (heavy duty trucks), it may be possible to realize substantial environmental benefits. However, until better data is available on the magnitude of CH4 (methane) loss, especially for in-use emissions, the precise climate impacts of a switch remains uncertain in this sector. Therefore, policymakers wishing to address climate change should use caution before promoting fuel switching to natural gas. Furthermore, diesel engine efficiency is likely to improve in the future (particularly as a result of current and upcoming HDT standards), and if this occurs without similar improvements in natural gas engine efficiency, a growing spread between these engines could worsen the impacts of diesel to natural gas fuel switching. Fleet owners and policymakers should continue to evaluate data on well-to-wheels CH4 (methane) losses and HDT efficiencies and work to ensure that the potential climate benefits of fuel switching are realized.”
