Meredith is innocent of the ways of men when her father dies and leaves her to carry on his archaeological work. Her brother vanishes and she finds herself leading a search for the fabled treasure of Tonatiuhican. The one man she trusts cannot accompany her, so she must choose the fortune hunter Cooper as her second in command. In the heat of Mexico, she finds love, passion and betrayal, and discovers that no-one is quite what he seems ...This novel actually has a real plot, unusual for romances. It's more of an adventure story in the vein of Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels, and while there are the usual elements of non-con sex, the heroine is neither cowed nor overwhelmed by it, the "bad guys" are shown as having their own reasons for having turned that way, and the ending is also less cliched.
