Product Description
This volume comes to you in the 19th Century Mercier Binding. The international collectors library makes available to members a series of Great English Novels of the 19th Century, all bound in a superb design worthy as an outer garment for this group of distinguished masterworks. The binding on your volume has been re-created by the comntemporary American designer Rafael Palacios from an original found on Memoires de Madame de Stael, published in Paris in 1891. The design is the creation of French master bookbinder Emile Mercier. His delicat over-all pattern of squares running diagonally, with rosettes at each corner, reflects the elegance of a bygone era of craftsmanship. The spine of the original bears raised bands (the hallmark of many collectors' editions) and is divided into six panels with a gold pointille ornament. Your replica edition follows closely the conception of Merciers design. Liek the original, it is slate blue with genuine gold on the filigreed front cover and paneled spine, which has raised bands. There is a matching ribbon marker.
