Description: Sookie Stackhouse is on a streak of bad luck. First, her coworker is murdered and no one seems to care. Then she's face-to-face with a beastly creature that gives her a painful and poisonous lashing. Enter the vampires, who graciously suck the poison from her veins (like they didn't enjoy it). Point is, they saved her life. So when one of the blood-suckers asks for a favor, she complies. And soon, Sookie's in Dallas using her telepathic skills to search for a missing vampire. She's suppose to interview certain humans involved. There's just one condition: The vampires must promise to behave - and let the humans go unharmed. Easier said than done. All it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly...
Reviews: Joby (Canada) (2010/11/07):
Because of the HBO series, True Blood, I have started to read Chaleaine Harris' Sookie Stachhouse novels. I'm not a fan of books written in first person, but overlook this fact because I really want to compare the books to the TV show.

There was a major flaw in this story that the editor should have caught. At one point Sookie is wearing a wig that gets taken off her head. Later on, the wig is suddenly back on and Sookie removes it herself. A big OOPS! Overlooking that, the story is good and flows for a very easy and fast read.

Stephen (USA: MD) (2012/09/03):
Another fun instalment in the Sookie Stackhouse Saga. While the TV adaptation again adds a lot of interseting sub plots and racy embellishments, its nice to read the original. They're just different enough that it doesn't matter which you're exposed to first, the other version will still be enjoyable and contain some suprises.

I look forward to getting and reading the third installm
