Product Description
This rare book considers in detail cooperation between Russia and Germany in aeronautics for almost 150 years, beginning from an attempt to build an airship to fight Napoleon's armies up to the early 1950s, when German engineers and scientists deported to the USSR built jet planes and engines for the Soviet Air Forces.
The "closed nature" of contacts in the military technical sphere was linked with the fact that such ties violated the provisions of international treaties in accordance with which Germany, following the First and Second World wars, was prohibited from working in the field of military aviation and on other types of armaments. But domestic interests turned out to be more powerful than diplomatic restrictions.
There was a striving in the USSR to put German know-how to use to strengthen our aviation, while German aviation designers obtained the capability to continue working on unfinished projects. You will learn how this Soviet-German cooperation unfolded and what results it provided when you read this book.
This book was written on the basis of documents from the Russian State Military History Archives (RGVIA), the Russian State Military Archives (RGVA), the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation (TsAMO RF), the State Archives of the Russian Federation (GARF), the Russian State Archives of Economics (RGAE), and the Russian State Archives of Contemporary Political History (RGASPI), the majority of which until recently were classified Top Secret.
The broad spectrum of the information sources and their strictly documentary nature make it possible to provide an exhaustive description of the stages of Soviet-German aviation cooperation, to erase yet another "white spot" in aviation history.
