Examining the novels of Benjamin Disraeli, this work constructs a complete portrait of the man, his context, and his enduring reputation. Detailing Disraeli’s literary and political career, from his role in the creation of the Conservative Party to serving as Prime Minister twice, this work notes how his novels be read as the breeding ground for his ideas. From his first novel, Vivian Grey, about the formation of a new political party, through to the overtly political Young England trilogy and beyond, this study shows how Disraeli’s novels expose the development of his thinking while also reflecting the anxieties of his age.
