Description: Product Description
Having proven his sensitivity in A BOY AWARE, Geoffrey Dilenschneider is ready to share his innermost thoughts once again. BETWEEN TWO JUNES IS A FOREST is a journal spanning the course of a year--from June to June--exploring an outpouring of topics. This feast of poetry, short stories, expose, and essays takes readers on a journey of contemplation, self-doubt, and self-discovery.

Geoffrey's grasp of the ironic, unusual, and unexpected are the hallmarks of a new generation. Leaving no stone unturned, no vision incomplete, BETWEEN TWO JUNES IS A FOREST is about love, loss, growth, pain, and tolerance. Geoffrey easily disproves the old stereotype that teenagers are superficial and naive. He exudes maturity as he communicates his political views with more eloquence than most adults, but at the same time he is a typical teen interested in girls, sports, music, and seeing the world. BETWEEN TWO JUNES IS A FOREST is a work of great depth written by a teen of unending complexity.

Reviews: ryan (USA: MI) (2009/02/27):
Have you ever watched a movie or tv show, that is just SO bad, that you just can't help but to keep watching it? Well, this book is REALLY bad. In fact, it's so bad that it's amusing.

I saw it at a dollar store, and was only interested in it because it was a year-long journal of a young man. Since I'd never read anything quite like that before, I figured I'd be in for an interesting read. I must confess, I didn't really look at it very long before I bought it because of that $1.00 price tag on it. When I finally got it home, and cracked it open for a more thorough reading, the hopes that I had for it were dashed. After the first few pages, I came to the realization that I could have gotten a something else, ANYTHING else for that $1.00 I spent on it, and I was sad. Thes best part of owning this book is that I can go online to read negative reviews of it and whole-heartedly agree with what the reviewers say. Every now and then, I like opening up it up, turning to a random page, and marvelling in the cheesiness of his writings, his overuse of metaphors, his trite rhymes, overly fragmented sentences, grammatical errors, and inablity to stay on a single topic...

Coming, coming, lost we are
Those who've done the worst
Found are secrets; deep's the sea!
Finding lives so cursed

Be all, end all
Jump from life to come!
No more consequences for our pain
Jump love's train and run!

Look at hands one at a time
To search for here the blow...
The be all, end all, send off hit
Too late we'll see and know

Random, HEY! I'm learning
Learning how to live.
Learning how to think and act
Learning... how to live

--------------------

I think with this poem, he's trying to say... (hhhmmmmm...) he's saying that life is... (uuummmmm...) that all of us are... (sigh...) actually, I couldn't decipher this piece of garbage if my life depended on it. What's really crazy is that there are actually 284 pages of this crap too! I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to spend their time seriously reading through this mish-mash of poorly written essays, stories, and poems. "Dilly" is trying to hard to portray himself like he is loving to all and wise beyond his years; but the reality is that he comes off as having a "better than thou" attitude and obliviously niave. This young man clearly had some help in getting this thing published (he has a rich daddy...). I can however think of a few things that would have made this book better:

1) Ditch the title "Between Two Junes is a Forest" because it sounds stupid and makes no sense.
2) Omit the worst writings which would probably cut the size of the book in half
3) Have the remaining half of the book rewritten by other, more talented poets, playwrights, and storytellers who have honed their craft and DESERVE to be published.

My recommendation is that you shouldn't waste your time with this book. If you can get it at a local library, you should, because it ain't worth paying money for. You won't be blown away by any profound insights or feel like you've learned anything worthwhile.
