After moving the family to West Philadelphia, her father abandons them. Zoe's only cultural links to her homeland and traditions are her mother and extended family. This lack of self awareness and love causes her to try to fill the void that her father left with various young men she encounters. In the midst of this painful journey, Zoe leaves home in search of popularity and love. She finds herself at University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
