Quaker Maid (USA: MI) (2020/03/02): I don't 'do' scary stories because it makes me afraid of the dark. This book has 5 short stories. 4 were not scary. I mean, I guess you could say The Mangler might make someone afraid of those big industrial machines ~~if you have to use this machine for work, I suggest skipping this story~~ but the image of the machine {SPOILER ALERT} coming down the street was funny! It was cartoonish and quite disappointing that King took this low blow. The last one, Children of the Corn, WAS scary. [I didn't see the movie]. I live in a rural are next to a corn field. Not happy that I read this story. The Shawshank Redemption was a bit disjointed in that it seemed to keep jumping around in time. This might have been written during King's drunkard stage in life.
