They were terrifying years of futile searching as he attempted to fight his way out of what he came to call his unrelenting darkness. He hid and moved and dodged and kept a low profile. He worked at dozens of mindless, entry-level jobs. He refused most friendships for fear of putting others in harms way. He agonized over the helplessness of his situation It was not the way his life was supposed to have gone. There is a twist in this story. The man had been a clinical psychologist and soon discovered he had unique tools with which to delve the depths of his mind. He had a wide array of strategies with which to attack his problem. The story relates his attempts to find himself. After twenty years he had established his own new life. If he discovered his former self would he have to give up everything he had - his new home, his relationships, his job, the several passions of his life? Surely there was family. How would they react? There would be two realities. Which one would he have to choose?
