The Unrelenting Darkness An Autobiographical Recounting Jerry Wilson's memory had been erased. He suddenly awoke on a sidewalk in unfamiliar surroundings and to a bevy of strange faces. He had no real name, personal history, or known home base. As he emerged into that setting he was overtaken by terror. He felt certain that he was being pursued but whether that meant he was a good guy or a bad guy he had no clue. Each morning he awoke to but two certainties: His name was not really Jerry Wilson and the terror, which had been his for years, would flood back through his being from where it had left him the night before. Eventually the days, weeks, and months became years. And so went his life for two decades. They were terrifying years of futile searching as he attempted to fight his way out of what he came to call his unrelenting darkness. He hid and moved and dodged and kept a low profile. He worked at dozens of mindless, entry-level jobs. He refused most friendships for fear of putting others in harms way. He agonized over the helplessness of his situation It was not the way his life was supposed to have gone. There is a twist in this story. The man had been a clinical psychologist and soon discovered he had unique tools with which to delve the depths of his mind. He had a wide array of strategies with which to attack his problem. The story relates his attempts to find himself. After twenty years he had established his own new life. If he discovered his former self would he have to give up everything he had - his new home, his relationships, his job, the several passions of his life? Surely there was family. How would they react? There would be two realities. Which one would he have to choose?
