The Student is a fictional story of two people in a small college town in rural West Virginia. Kim Giordano is a 24 year old single mother facing bankruptcy, and losing her son as her ex-husband who teaches at the college refuses to pay his court ordered child support. Steve Gannon is a senior at the college who befriends Kim. As the year progresses this friendship becomes romantic and Steve puts in motion a plan he feels will make the professor pay up. The book takes the reader on a one year odyssey that follows the main characters and some excellent supporting characters through some difficult and at the same time endearing times. At the end of the school term Steve is faced with a difficult decision, whether to leave Kim and her son for an excellent job opportunity at a New York City radio station or stay behind to see where their relationship will go.
