Product Description
The papers presented in this collection represent a long-standing interest in developing and applying family systems theory in the workplace. The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family has sponsored two conferences on the application of Bowen theory to organizations, one in December 1978 and the other in December 1981. At the 1978 meeting, ideas were presented by faculty members, knowledgeable in theory and therapy, who saw the value and applicability of systems ideas for those interested in the functioning of organizations. The 1981 meeting was designed to bring together some of those consultants, managers, and employees who have applied their knowledge of Bowen theory to the organizations in which they live and work.
Those of us who work in organizations - whether small or large, whether profit or non-profit, whether entrepreneurial or bureaucratic - are aware that they function in ways unaccounted for by conventional management theory. The papers in this volume shed some light on the underlying emotional process that guides behavior for individuals in organizations and organizations themselves.
This volume features an extended introduction by Murray Bowen, M.D.
