Community cookbook collectors will discover recipes for versions of Salmon with Mint Purée, Fruit Cobbler Cake, and Smoked Tuna Paté and other fare, both distinctive and familiar, in this spiral-bound collection of 400 recipes. Recipes and six menus for parties are at the heart of this book, while snippets of local history preface the chapters and nestle, none too visibly, in margins printed with a woodcut of vines. A few recipes are also set in the margins over this same vine print, making them hard to follow. Generous amounts of butter, cream, and cheese are called for in many recipes; it's your call as to whether that is a "yea" or a "nay." It would help if there were notes about the origins of recipes and to provide extra guidance, but the recipes are clearly written, so this is a small lapse.
