Product Description
Other than a few pages of introductory material, this is entirely a collection of editorial cartoons. Editorial cartoons have helped express the Sacramento Bee's editorial policy from the paper's beginnings in 1857. Most of the early works were unsigned, but for seventy years four artists have dominated Bee editorial page graphics. Arthur Buel began his career in 1897 when he began drawing cartoons for sourdough papers in Dawson and Nome during the Klondike gold rush. Harold J Wahl was introduced to readers in 1920 in a front page cartoon. The next era began when Newton T Pratt was appointed Bee political cartoonist in 1938. Finally, in 1971, came Dennis Renault.
