The poems themselves are sometimes incandescent. . . . concerned with raising the mundane to a finer sensibility . . . so vibrant and concise they demand to be read. --Australian Book Review No. 161 1994 pp. 51-52 Mark O'Flynn

From the Inside Flap
The poems in Such Sweet Thunder reflect the Baudelairean dualities of spleen and ideal, employing an antithetical mode throughout in tone, imagery and subject matter. Shadow Of A Doubt juxtaposes the overt satire of 'The Speewah Ballad' against the AIDS-related metaphors of 'Ascent'; the ameliorative hopes of 'Prometheus' contrast with the violence and acerbity that characterise much of S.S. Snakebite.
