Product Description
WHO RUNS FOR CONGRESS? AMBITION, CONTEXT, and CANDIDATE EMERGENCE by THOMAS a. KAZEE, Editor- uses case studies to explain which potential candidates actually make the race for a congressional seat.
· The authors of this collection of essays studied nine congressional districts during the 1991-1992 election cycle to understand more fully why some people run for Congress and why others-often equally qualified-opt to stay on the sidelines. The case studies are based on the premise that the best way to understand politics in America is to talk to the people-the politicians and political activists-who are at its heart. How important is winning a seat in Congress? What price is an aspiring legislator willing to pay? "Who runs for Congress?" examines the variables that influence candidate emergence such as incumbency, gender, redistricting, and cost.
