Product Description
The unifying theme of this book is not a general philosophy or a focused position regarding the development of talent; rather, the unifying theme of this book is providence manifested in a man and reflected in examples of those closest to him. The man is John F Feldhusen, founder and director of the Gifted Education Resource Institute at Purdue University. Talent Development: Theories and 1+actice is dedicated to John with the awe and the respect due to one who has made the improvement of conditions for talented youth his life's work and in doing so has become a tremendous force for advancements in the fields of psychology and education.
As I began to write this dedication, I became somewhat overwhelmed at the nature of such a responsibility. Those who know John as I do will immediately understand. How can I possibly choose words and arrange them in such a way that captures the essence of John; researcher, mentor, true visionary, prominent scholar and friend? What words adequately convey tireless commitment to others, encyclopedic memory for research, impatience with mediocrity, and ideals for excellence? Accepting that it must fall short, this dedication to John Feldhusen is an attempt to offer richly deserved recognition for his incredible professional accomplishments and to recognize the Gifted Education Resource Institute (GERI), his creation, as a powerful force in gifted education.
