Product Description
In 1974 Philip Agee achieved instant international notoriety. He had quit the Central Intelligence Agency three years earlier and later published an expose, "Inside the Company", which blew the cover on the forces behind dozens of political and social upheavals and counter-revolutions around the world. From the day he left the CIA, Philip Agee was marked by it as an enemy: hunted, arrested, threatened, expelled from country after country (often illegally) and sometimes prosecuted. In 1977, after living in Britain for almost five years, he was refused an extension of his visitor's permit and forced to leave the country "in the interests of national security". In 1979 Agee's US passport was revoked. In this book, Agee tells the story of the events and feelings that led him to leave the CIA and of his struggles to survive while writing "Inside the Company" and after it was published. His growing sense of outrage at the CIA's covert interference in nations whose attmepts at social and political reconstruction Agee increasingly admired, coupled with his brave attempts to redress the balance through exposure of CIA agents and actions in Europe, Africa and South America are described here.
