Picked this up thinking it would be a fairly light fantasy read, along the lines of Harry Potter, Eragon, etc.
I do NOT think this book should be classified as a children's book. Most of the book takes place during the German bombing of England in 1943, and it contains some very disturbing and violent imagery.
I did not enjoy this book at all. While parts of it were interesting, the graphic descriptions of cruelty and the bizarre (and revolting) antagonists made for a very unpleasant read.
