Product Description
Building on his work, "The Public Man", Dealy here identifies a pervasive attitude towards life that is common to all the Catholic countries of the Western Hemisphere. Focusing on various constants in its civil life, he argues that Latin America is a dualistic society that clearly distinguishes between public and private realms. Constrasting the Catholic Latin American mode of existence with that of the largely Protestant North, Dealy shows that North Americans could learn much from their neighbours in the South, just as Latin Americans could profit from adopting some of the north's public institutions. This study of the thought, behaviour and attitude of Latin Americans provides an example of their exceptionalism.
