Description: Product Description
They say big-city problems don't happen here. They're wrong. That's why psychologist Kelly Chapman is so concerned about fourteen-year-old Maggie Winston. She's a straight-A student who's developed a sudden interest in an older man. A man she knows only as Mac.

Deputy Samantha Jones, Kelly's longtime friend, is worried, too. She has been ever since a local businessman killed his wife and then himself. Since a kid was caught selling drugs. Since the discovery of a mysterious chemical dump on Kyle Evans's farm. Kyle, her former fiancé and current lover…

Are all these things connected? That's what Sam and Kelly are beginning to think. And that means someone in Chandler is lying.

3 stars
The Second Lie is the second book in the Chapman Files series by American author, Tara Taylor Quinn. Deputy Sheriff Samantha Jones is convinced that there’s a methamphetamine super-lab operating in her county, and she’s determined to find it, even if her colleagues, family and friends all think she’s crazy. Her friend, psychologist Kelly Chapman has been asked to speak to a fourteen-year-old girl whose mother suspects her daughter may be in moral danger. Kyle Evans is a progressive farmer who notices that some of his chemicals have gone missing.

This is a rather slow-moving novel with several subplots: Sam trying to locate the drug lab; Sam trying to crack a drug distribution ring that uses children as couriers; Kelly trying to determine if Maggie Winston is being groomed by a paedophile; Sam having major trust issues with her lover, Kyle. There’s an exciting climax which, unfortunately, doesn’t satisfactorily resolve all the issues. Quite topical, but drags on a bit too much. There are two further books in this series which I won’t bother to read.
