Reviews: Joyce Fischer (USA: IL) (2010/08/28):
Corporate espionage in real life! I first heard about this on NPR's This American Life. The story was intriguing. Who knew that international price fixing could affect our food quality and prices worldwide? But it's not just a straight spy story. In the real world, the FBI has to recruit insiders to get the evidence they need to catch big food corporations bargaining to fix prices and control the market on food and chemical additives.

The young executive they recruit turns out to be amazingly confident for an inexperienced spy. They later realize he is involved in his own dirty dealing. And even more worrying, they later realize his over confidence may be caused by some sort of delusional disorder.

Things are not as simple as they seem. For once, you may sympathize with how difficult the job of the FBI can really be. You'll also be a lot more aware how much control big companies can have over everyday products like food.

This has been made into a movie, but I haven't seen it. There is no way it could be as detailed as the book. It's a good one for the curious.
