Reviews: Wil (Australia) (2008/04/06):
Like me, Joshua Ali Quare was born in 1968, but because he's a "longtimer", his body regenerates in a way that allows him to still be alive and kicking in 2109. Every 15 years, he gets sick and loses consciousness, and when he recovers, he's 10 years younger than he should be, and his memory's gone. He learns of his past from his werp, a 22nd-century version of a laptop, and discovers that he's spent most of his life working as a mercenary and a terrorist for The Organization, formerly known as the KGB.

Josh is an interesting (but not likable) character, and the future created by the author, John Barnes, is brilliantly-created and disturbing. The 21st century has been a century of war, with mankind constantly devising new ways to kill each other (including ecological warfare). I recommend this book if you like science fiction, war in the near future, unsympathetic characters, and dark, dystopian futures, and stories that don't have happy endings.
