What an amazing book !!!! Probably the best book I have read in the past year and one of the top 10 of all books I have read and I read a lot. The story covers the life of a young man in the 11th century who goes from poverty in London to being alone after his parents die and he is taken as an apprentice by a barber surgeon where he spends the next several years learning the trade and roaming the country. After the death of the barber surgeon, he is determined to become a physician and travels to Persia to attend the elite college for physicians located there. This book has everything you could want in a book and is very well written. I am not sure how historically accurate it is, but if I wanted history, I would read a history book. Trust me, you can't go wrong with this book. Loved, loved, loved it.
