Julie Dawson (United Kingdom) (2006/11/14): Roddy Doyle is an amazing storyteller, once I started on this book I found it hard to put down. I first discovered Roddy Doyle's exceptional talent when I read "The Woman Who Walked Into Doors", and in my opinion that book remains his seminal work. I was so impressed by that book that I bought this one straight after I finished "The Woman Who Walked Into Doors". "Paddy Clarke" captures the speech and thought patterns of childhood brilliantly and with great humour, and it won the Booker Prize in 1993.
