I found it a terrific and heartening story about love, loss, grief, dispossessed people, guilt, redemption and atonement with an insight into an Afghanistan which altered overnight, Muslims and the Taliban.

If you read only one book this year choose The Kite Runner!

I can’t remember what made me what to read this book. I think somewhere in my memory I recall it being spoken about on occasions. When I read the reviews at the beginning of the book I wondered why I had bothered getting hold of a copy. I have to say against the common opinion of this book, I really enjoyed it. The description of early Kabul is fascinating and shows a country that would have been the head of many holiday destination if not for the war that has destroyed it. The narrative is easy to follow and fast paced. Mix this with the descriptive nature of the author and the historical aspect of the book makes it a good read. The book centre’s round two young boys from contrasting different backgrounds and how the mistake of one at an early age shapes his future for years to come. This book is not amazing but it is good enough for me to have just brought the second novel by the author. Well worth a read.
