Product Description
One of the most important festivals for a Roman legion was the birthday of the eagle, which celebrated the anniversary of the legion's foundation. For the Second Augustan Legion, based in Caerleon, this was 23 September, birthday of the Emperor Augustus. The National Museum celebrated this date for ten years with a prestigious lecture held at the Roman Legionary Museum. These lectures became of international renown, and are finally available as an anthology, beautifully produced in hardback with new illustrations.
