Erin Hunt (USA: UT) (2015/08/07): A wonderful autobiography/memoir of one Jewish woman's survival in Nazi era Austria and Germany. I was captivated just by the prologue and thought about the book often while I was busy doing other things. One reader's review said, "This book is not written well. She basically tells you everything, and shows you nothing." But isn't that what a memoir is? Someone telling you their story? I didn't expect Edith Hahn Beer to recall the 'smell of the afternoon air in summer' because these events took place over 50 years ago. It isn't a novel filled with beautiful passages or sweeping visuals. It's memories. It's her story. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes memoirs, autobiographies, or studies the holocaust.
