Description: Upon examining a dead woman found in snowbound Central Park, Kay Scarpetta immediately recognizes the grisly work of Temple Gault, a bold and brilliant killer from her past. Now she must hunt down a psychopath whose string of horrible murders is leading inexorably to his ultimate prey: Scarpetta herself. Even with the help of the FBI, Scarpetta knows the endgame is hers alone to play -- and it will be played on Gault's home turf, the subway tunnels beneath New York City.
Reviews: Dan and Maria (USA: TX) (2008/10/20):
Dan Review: This is the first Scarpetta Novel I have read and I like it enough to want to read some of the earlier books. I want to see where this character (author) has brought from and possibly where the character is taken. At this point, in typical woman-does-it all fashion, she is in a relationship with a married man, no sound family ties except to her niece, Lucy (FBI). Being politically correct in 1995, Lucy appears to be the requisite homosexual, "all live styles are equal", "don't ask, don't tell", never any consequences mentality. Dr. Kay Scarpetta however, as the cover says, is "tenacious and vulnerable". Language is not vulgar. Crime scenes are described well without be gruesome and "R" rated. No "sex scenes" in spite of the moral dilemma of sleeping with someone that is married.

This book delves into the mind of a sadistic killer, Temple Gault. It is a psycho serial killer vs. the "law enforcement" community. Dr. Kay Scarpetta, chief medical examiner of Virginia and consultant for the FBI is the main character. It appears (now that I'm almost done with the book) that this series has several before this that has established Dr. Kay Scarpetta's character: #1 Postmortem (1990), #2 Body of Evidence (1991), #3 All That Remains (1992), #4 Cruel and Unusual (1993) and #5 The Body Farm (1994). This appears to be #6 in the series.
