Books about foreign countries sometimes tend to deal in cliches or to present vague or incorrect information along with the story, but this one is so real that I thought it was a true story. I spent the larger part of my adult life in Japan, speaking the language and living as a part of Japanese society, and this book fooled me! I discovered that it was fiction after finishing it. It was tremendously enjoyable and, incidentally, informative--something I always love in a book. Parts of it make you feel you are getting a glimpse behind the scenes of history.
