I can't say I enjoyed this book in the way I normally enjoy a book. It was an intriguing, well-written, and touching account of the impact and Ellroy's investigation into the murder of his mother when he was just a boy. Ellroy is far from sentimental, but you can't help but have sympathy for the tragedy and the way it shaped his experiences.
