Reviews: Laura (USA: IL) (2008/06/29):
This book is an odd mix of Star Trek and the old series "Here Come the Brides".

If you are too young to remember, "Here Come the Brides" was a series based in California during the 1800's. The Bolton brothers are timber-men losing their mountain to the lovable but money hungry saw mill owner. They bet the banker that they can bring eligible women to their little town to marry the lumberjacks and women from a village on the East Coast agree to do so because they lost all their men in the Civil War. The bet is somehow hinged on ALL the women getting married. (I think that's how it goes.) About 100 women live in a chaste dormitory and the fly in the ointment is Biddie, the chatty, scatter-brained, plain faced best friend of the prettiest girl. This sounds silly (and it was) but it was also kind of addictive - the Bolton brothers were all cute (one was a teenage heart throb) and the acting was decent.

Anyhoo, in this book, Spock ends up in the above timber town with no memory of who he is. He is befriended by the saw mill owner, helps solve the bet (which was never resolved by the series - it ended abruptly) as well as other difficulties, and there is a very cool twist at the end regarding Spock's lineage.

While the "Star Trek" portion of this book is a little weak, the story is nevertheless a very fun read.
