Description: Product Description
A novel based on the game. Follow Jason into a mysterious underground cavern full of strange alien beings. Soon he is locked into a battle with a gang of radioactive mutants-- fighting to save the Earth from destruction.
Reviews: Eddie Kovacs (USA: NC) (2009/05/19):
One of the more amusing products to arise from the era of the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System, this book took several rather severe liberties with the video game's (admittedly otherwise rather minimal) plot. Nevertheless, it does have some value as a historical curiosity to video game fanboys, as it introduces us to the hero Jason Frudnick's extraterrestrial traveling companion and future wife Eve from Signar-el, as well as his best friend Alex Bufoni. It also provides a more plausible explanation of how Jason got the tank and armor he's shown discovering in the game's wordless introduction, and raises the stakes with the story being about Jason saving the world, not just recovering his pet frog.

Produced with neither authorization nor encouragement from Nintendo, this book later provided the backstory for some of the game's sequels with neither authorization nor even awareness of the author until he was informed of these decisions later. (Happily for everyone concerned, he was flattered rather than irritated.) If you're a nostalgic video game player and like to collect things from your past or you're just a fanboy with a liking for B-grade cult classics and other amusing schlock, this is an excellent book for your collection.
