tennantfamily (United Kingdom) (2009/03/31): Originally published in 1960 this history of Great Britain from 1815-1914 has become a work widely used to introduce the period. "It opens with a broad survey of the governmental system and the state of economic and social development in 1815". Presenting history essentially as a storybut balancing the many striking personalities and the background (social, political, economic) against which they played their parts. This 2nd edition has been expanded and restructured to incorporate new findings since its original publication. "The origins of the Industrial Revolution, the ideas at work in 1815 and the aspirations and living conditions of the working class are given much fuller treatment." The forming of the Labour party, the Irish question, the diplomacy leading up to the Great War of 1914-19 brings the story to a climax.
