Rhys is a full-fledged drákon, meaning he has all the usual Gifts of his kind: he can Turn from human to smoke to dragon; he has super strength, stealth, grace, and the ability to hear the music of metal and stones. Plus, of course, all that deadly drákon charisma. Too bad he’s been kidnapped by the sanf inimicus, his human enemies...and he might even be dead.

Zoe, like most females of her kind, can’t Turn at all. But she’s developed a few other surprising Gifts of her own. She’s going to need every one of them if she’s going to help Rhys—which, frankly, she hasn’t decided yet she really wants to do. They’ve got a history, these two. And it isn’t sweet.

Zoe and Rhys turned out to be quite the characters. I think they’re both a little more gritty than some of my previous protagonists, and I like that. Their story is set primarily in eighteenth century Paris, a few years before the revolution. Lots of turmoil, lots of drama and action.
